Oxford County collects garbage and recycling weekly from roughly 26,000 households across its six participating municipalities co-collected in the same truck (divider in the middle to separate material) to reduce transportation costs.

Why do I have to set out by 7AM?
Routes can change each day depending on vehicle issues, weather and road conditions, and events outside the control of the County. Material must be out by 7AM to avoid being missed, collection vehicles only run the route once.
If my garbage and recycling is always collected at 10AM, can I set it out at 9AM?
The County cannot guarantee your garbage and recycling will be collected if the routes change and your street is collected earlier than normal. To avoid being missed, have your material out by 7AM the day of your collection.
Where do I set out at the curb?
Please set out your material no more than one (1) meter away from the curb or at the end of your driveway so it doesn’t block the sidewalk for pedestrians and/or snow removal equipment. If you have no sidewalk, your material should be set at the end of your property.
What should I do about snow plows in the winter?
Your garbage and recycling should still be placed at the bottom of your driveway or at the curb. It should not be placed on a snowbank or sidewalks where it will not be collected for health and safety reasons. At the edge of the driveway is safest to avoid snow plows as well as cars.
What should I do if my garbage and/or recycling doesn’t get collected?
If your material was set out after 7 a.m., or a sticker was left by the driver, please bring your material back inside and place it out on your next collection day, after the issues have been addressed. Sometimes, crews cannot complete collections on the designated day or may miss a street. If this happens in your area, please bring your material back inside and set it out again at 7 a.m. the following day. If you have questions, please call 519-539-9800 ext. 3159 for the Waste Management Department.
What happens if my collection day is cancelled due to weather?
Collection changes or interruptions can happen at any time – for weather, road closures or other issues. Stay updated with wasteline.ca, www.oxfordcounty.ca, and download the Wasteline app.

 Weather Conditions
  • Try to ensure your garbage bag(s) are free of snow and ice.
  • Ensure leaves are cleared away from set out spot at curbside
  • Do not place garbage and recycling on top of snowbanks: collectors will not climb over snowbanks for safety reasons and to ensure they remain on schedule. Make sure there is a clear path for the collector.
  • To help with efficient and safe collection, shovel out a small area to set your garbage and recycling.
  • Keep garbage bags off sidewalks and out of the potential path of snow plows.
  • During extreme weather conditions (heavy snowfall, high winds), store your set-out material in a shelter or garage
  • When conditions are unsafe for our collection crews to collect material, please return your garbage and recycling inside the house and put out on your next collection day.
 Acceptable Containers

Garbage cans must:

  • Be a rigid container;
  • Be intact (unbroken) with working handles that are safe for the drivers to pick up and empty;
  • Consist of  one bag tag placed on the top bag if the container is less than 128 litres;
  • Consist of two bag tags placed on the top bag if the container is between 129 and 240 litres,
  • Containers larger than 240 litres will not be collected.

Recycling containers should have working handles and drain holes in the bottom of the container.

Oxford County has blue boxes available for sale at several locations in the County.
