Oxford Road 59 (Vansittart Ave) bridge construction progressing on schedule
Construction on Oxford Road 59 (Vansittart Avenue) bridge is progressing on schedule. Over the past six weeks, the contractor has completed a number of steps to prepare for bridge jacking and the stage 1 deck concrete pour, including installing access platforms and pedestrian hoarding beneath the bridge to protect the trail and its users. Concrete removals are also ongoing as the contractor works to remove the existing sidewalk, curb, asphalt, and decking on the west side of the bridge.
When the bridge jacking takes place later this month, motorists can expect two approximately 15-minute closures for one day. Please watch for updates at www.oxfordcounty.ca and on our social media channels for the date these closures will take place.
The OR 59 bridge is undergoing major reconstruction until December 2024 to repair the existing structure and add a new wider deck to accommodate bike lanes and sidewalks. This project is possible in part thanks to funding from the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF). Learn more at www.oxfordcounty.ca/59bridge
