Oxford County is undertaking construction work to replace bridge #20115 on the Trans Canada Trail in Tillsonburg.

About this project

Oxford County is undertaking construction work to rehabilitate bridge #20115 on the Trans Canada Trail located between Oxford Road 53 (Tillson Avenue) and Oxford Road 19 (Broadway Street) in Tillsonburg.

The pedestrian bridge crosses Lisgar Creek and the Ontario Southland Railway. The work involves removal of the existing bridge superstructure (including existing bridge deck, central pier and culvert), site grading, ramp interconnection between upper and lower trails, construction of an open channel to convey creek flows, and installation of a new grade-separated timber pedestrian bridge for a variety of trail uses (hikers, cyclists, horseback riders, etc.). The bridge replacement will result in an accessible connection between the Fourth to North and Trans Canada trails.

Construction will begin on May 8, 2023 and is expected to be completed by December 2023.

Traffic control

There will be no impact to vehicular traffic in the surrounding area; however, sections of associated trails will be closed to detour foot traffic.

The Fourth to North lower trail will be closed from Oxford Road 20 (North Street East) to Fourth Street for the duration of the project. Access at the North Street East and Fourth Street entrances to the trail will also be closed.

The upper trail will be closed from Oxford Road 53 (Tillson Avenue) to approximately 400 metres east of Oxford Road 19 (Broadway Street) for the duration of the project. Access at the Oxford Road 53 entrance to the trail and 400 metres east of Broadway Street (Oxford Road 19) will also be closed.

Safety

Stay safe and avoid the work area during construction. Respect work zones and obey all fencing and signage. Maintain a safe distance from construction equipment and vehicles entering and leaving the site.
