Speed monitoring in Drumbo, Plattsville, Bright and Harrington
County Council will be asked to endorse additional traffic calming measures in Drumbo, Plattsville, Bright and Harrington at the next Council meeting. The report recommends expanding the use of electronic speed feedback signs and adjusting the limits of posted speed zones at village limits, among other adjustments, to potentially increase the effectiveness of traffic calming and speed management in these areas. The report also seeks approval to pilot a new traffic calming measure in the County on Oxford Road 8 in Plattsville: raised median islands with curb extensions, which narrow the roadway width in a manner designed to trigger a reduction in driver operating speeds.
Oxford County has been undertaking speed management, traffic calming, and road safety investigations over the past four years to improve safety on County roads. For updates, visit https://speakup.oxfordcounty.ca/road-safety-2023.

Annual waste management performance reports
On March 22, Public Works brings forward the 2022 Annual Waste Management Reports, which show the County’s facilities and operations performed well last year and in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Oxford County diverted approximately 45% of residential, industrial, commercial and institutional waste from landfill in 2022, putting the estimated remaining landfill service life at 28 to 33 years. This figure includes the collection of 15,100 tonnes of leaf, brush and yard waste material; 8,050 tonnes of residential curbside blue box material; 15 tonnes of recycled bulky expanded polystyrene (Styrofoam) materials; and 6.5 tonnes of film plastic material. The amount of waste material landfilled decreased by 5% last year.
The 2022 Waste Management Annual Reports will be posted to the County’s website on March 23, 2023, at www.oxfordcounty.ca/wasteline.

Strategic Plan
County Council will be asked to approve the recommendation to award a consultant contract to StrategyCorp Inc. and initiate the strategic planning process. The County's current strategic plan was released in 2013 and most recently refreshed in 2020. It outlines the County's long-term organizational goals and identifies actions to guide daily decision-making. The consultant will work with Council and staff to develop a thorough public consultation process that engages staff, residents, businesses and other community stakeholders to identify priorities, objectives and goals. Funding for this project was allocated through the 2023 Business Plan and Budget.
