Construction work on Oxford Road 59 (Vansittart Ave) bridge in Woodstock
Oxford County Council is being asked to approve the contract award for construction work on the Oxford Road 59 (Vansittart Avenue) bridge in Woodstock, allowing work to begin next month on this year-long project. The bridge, originally built in 1967, is due for major rehabilitation including the complete removal and replacement of the existing bridge deck, repairs to the structure, and a new wider deck to accommodate bike lanes and sidewalks.
During construction, the southbound lane between Devonshire Avenue and Tecumseh Street will be closed to traffic and re-routed to Oxford Road 17/Oxford Road 4 and Oxford Road 30 (11th Line). This option was one of several evaluated by the County in 2023 (see Council report PW 2023-37), and was selected based on input from emergency responders and the ability to keep some traffic moving in the area. The Oxford Road 59 northbound traffic lane will remain open during construction, although significant traffic delays are expected in the area. A web page with project updates will be available after January 10 at www.oxfordcounty.ca/speakup.
