Annual update on 10-Year Shelter Plan
The County’s annual update on the 10-Year Shelter Plan comes forward at the February 9 Council meeting. The plan, a requirement for municipalities under the Housing Services Act, reports that in 2021:
- 54 additional households received a rent subsidy;
- 62 affordable housing units in Woodstock and 22 in Blandford-Blenheim neared completion;
- 26 additional affordable housing units were approved, eight in Woodstock and 18 in Tillsonburg; and,
- two Habitat for Humanity dwellings were started in Drumbo in Blandford-Blenheim.
The report notes that the County continues to face a housing crisis in which housing demand greatly outweighs supply. Without adequate housing, it is difficult for individuals to have employment, food security, social and educational opportunities.
