Development charges annual report
Oxford County collected $5.22 million in development charges in 2023, a decrease of $2.4 million over the previous year, and invested $5.65 million in development charge funds in projects that support growth in our communities, including planning studies, roads, water and wastewater, ambulance, waste diversion and library services.
Oxford County is currently seeking input on the 2024 Development Charges Background Study, which will help set new development charge rates and policy. To read the study and find out how to submit feedback, visit www.speakup.oxfordcounty.ca/2024-dc-background-study.
CS 2024-13 – Development Charges Annual Report – 2023
Response to Bill 185 – Cutting Red Tape to Build More Homes Act
County Council receives an initial review next week of Bill 185 - Cutting Red Tape to Build More Homes Act and the updated draft Provincial Planning Statement (PPS), both of which were released earlier this month. Bill 185 proposes a range of changes to existing legislation related to land use planning, development charges, and municipal restrictions on bonusing of development. The proposed PPS will provide the Government of Ontario’s updated policy direction to municipalities on land use planning, from planning for housing, employment and infrastructure, to the protection of agricultural land and other natural resources, and more. County staff is asking for Council direction to submit preliminary comments to the provincial government and undertake early advocacy on key areas of initial concern. A follow-up report will be prepared for May 8 to provide a more complete review of the proposed changes and potential impacts for Oxford County and the area municipalities within Oxford.
