Oxford County Library and Ingersoll Cheese & Agricultural Museum are collaborating to keep the names and memory of Ingersoll service people alive this Remembrance Day

Postcard of Private Wray ChambersBy Remembrance Day, 100 homes in Ingersoll will receive a unique postcard detailing the life of one of 100 soldiers enlisted in World War I and World War II, many of whom didn’t return home. The addresses were chosen because they were once the home of a soldier from the Canadian Infantry, Royal Canadian Air Force or Royal Canadian Navy during WWI and/or WWII.

Oxford County Library and Ingersoll Cheese & Agricultural Museum are collaborating to keep the names and memory of Ingersoll’s service people alive this Remembrance Day. These postcards memorialize veterans and inspire the home’s current occupants to remember another Ingersoll resident's sacrifice.

Residents are asked to check their mailbox in the days leading up to Remembrance Day and get in touch if they receive a postcard by emailing localhistory@ocl.net or by leaving a comment on the Ingersoll Cheese & Agricultural Museum’s Facebook Page.

For the residences not previously home to one of Ingersoll’s soldiers, you can view each of the postcards online at https://history.ocl.net/Services/Local-History/Ingersoll/Ingersolls-People/A-Hero-Lived-Here

For those looking to learn a bit more about Ingersoll’s role in WWI and WWII, the Ingersoll Public Library will have an in-depth display on the life of an Ingersoll veteran for the month of November and staff are always available to assist researchers in discovering their family history.

“We hope that the 'A Hero Lived Here' postcard campaign will bring to light the monumental sacrifices made by everyday people of Ingersoll who responded to the World War call to arms. For those searching for their family history, Oxford County Library works diligently to support researchers. We maintain a local history page that delves into the story of Oxford County, its people and land, as well as in-person research assistance at our libraries.”
