Province hosting telephone Town Hall meetings on abandoned oil and gas wells
The Ministry of Natural Resources wants to hear from private landowners in Oxford County who may have old or inactive wells on their property or in their community.
The Ministry is hosting a Telephone Town Hall in the Counties of Elgin, Lambton, Middlesex, and Oxford. Residents in potentially affected areas of Oxford County will receive automated phone calls with voicemail instructions on how to join the Town Hall.
Oil and Gas Telephone Town Hall
Wednesday, November 13, 2024
7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The Ministry of Natural Resources is moving forward with its Action Plan to understand and address the risks from old and inactive oil and gas wells (also referred to as “legacy” wells) and subsurface gas migration hazards. It is hosting the Town Hall to share information about old and inactive wells and listen to feedback from residents and landowners.
Oxford County launched a public awareness campaign in June to inform residents about the risks of abandoned oil and gas wells and the provincial program available to help landowners identify and plug old wells. The County is home to approximately 500 legacy oil and gas wells in rural areas.
