At this time, Oxford County is optimistic that we will be able to hire summer students for 2021, and therefore we are going to begin our summer student recruitment. Oxford County will be continuing to take steps to support our community’s response to COVID-19  and measures taken by Southwestern Public Health, so if there are any changes required for our summer student recruitment, this webpage will be updated and all candidates who have been contacted will be notified.

The County of Oxford will be accepting electronic applications beginning mid December until January 8, 2021 at 4:00pm. Summer employment opportunities begin around the end of April until the end of August. Please read the requirements below and send completed cover letters and resumes to hr@oxfordcounty.ca. We thank all applicants for their interest, however only those candidates selected for interviews will be contacted.

To apply for any summer student positions, you must be:

  • Legally able to work in Canada
  • Currently enrolled in full-time studies in a post-secondary program
  • Returning to a full-time post-secondary program in the fall of 2021.

Returning Students

If you are a student who previously worked for Oxford County and still meet the criteria above, please send an email to hr@oxfordcounty.ca with the following information:

  • Your first and last name
  • The department that you worked in and the name of your previous supervisor
  • If applicable - Do you still have an acceptable driver’s abstract?
  • Are you interested in returning to the same position you previously had?

Returning students will receive a follow up email from Human Resources.

Available Departments

There are a variety of Departments who are looking to hire summer students for 2021, so please read the below carefully and only apply for the positions that are of interest to you.

Public Works

Transportation
Wage: $16/hr

  • Location: All 4 Patrols (Springford, Highland/Embro, Drumbo and Woodstock)
  • Shifts: Monday-Thursday, 6:00a.m. - 4:00p.m.
  • G driver’s licence required (and an acceptable driving record)
  • Job duties: General labour tasks, using weed eaters, traffic control (flagging), road maintenance, sign repair, washing vehicles, cleaning the shop, removing debris from the roads, and painting. Working indoors and outdoors required.

Water & Wastewater Services
Wage: $16/hr

  • Transportation throughout Oxford County required.
  • Shifts: Monday-Friday, 7:30a.m. - 3:30p.m.
  • G driver’s licence required (and an acceptable driving record)
  • Job duties: Fire hydrant maintenance, weed trimming, traffic control, completing excel spreadsheets, assisting staff with a variety of duties. Working indoors and outdoors required.

Facilities
Wage: $16/hr

  • Transportation throughout Oxford County required.
  • Shifts: Monday-Friday, 7:00a.m. - 3:30p.m.
  • G driver’s licence required (and an acceptable driving record)
  • Job duties: Daily repairs to buildings and properties, pickup and delivery of supplies, painting, picking up debris, inspecting residential and commercial properties. Working indoors and outdoors required.

Waste Management (Environmental)
Wage: $16/hr

  • Location: Waste Management Facility in Salford
  • Shifts: Monday-Friday, 8:00a.m. - 4:30p.m.
  • G driver’s licence required (and an acceptable driving record)
  • Job duties: Lawn maintenance, painting, litter picking, deliveries, driving small to medium sized equipment (zero turn lawnmowers and tractor mower), performing curbside audits and assisting with customer service requests. Working mostly outdoors. Note: This position may require you to come into contact with non-threatening wildlife, such as snakes and mice.

Wastewater Treatment
Wage: $16/hr

  • Location: Woodstock and Ingersoll
  • Shifts: Monday-Friday, 7:30a.m. - 3:30p.m.
  • G driver’s licence required (and an acceptable driving record)
  • Job duties: Assisting with Wastewater Treatment operations, sample collection and laboratory testing. Performing maintenance duties such as hosing of tanks/weirs, pipe painting and aiding plant Maintenance staff. Working indoors and outdoors required.

Woodingford Lodge (Long Term Care Home)

Personal Support Worker Student
Wage: $21.95/hr

  • Location: All 3 locations (Woodstock, Ingersoll, and Tillsonburg)
  • Shifts: All shifts, including days, afternoons, nights, and weekends.
  • Valid licence and access to a vehicle is required
  • Job Duties: Providing personal care and support to residents, and possessing the ability and passion to support person and family centered care
  • Qualifications: Students who have hands on health care experience and are completing their first year as an RPN student or their second year as an RN student are welcome to apply.

If you are applying for a position that has a driver’s licence requirement, please include in the body of your email which licence you have, and if you have a clean driver’s abstract.
