Public Notice: Annual larviciding program begins in June

Public notice of pesticide use for larvicide and West Nile Virus prevention.


Between June 1 and September 1, 2017 Oxford County Public Health and Emergency Services may be conducting a larviciding program when a risk area has been identified through mosquito surveillance under the authority of the Local Acting Medical Officer of Health to control larval mosquitos and their development into vectors of West Nile Virus.

Altosid pellets (methoprene, PCP # 21809), Vectolex WSP water-soluble pouches (Bacillus sphaericus, PCP # 28009) and Altosid briquettes (methoprene, PCP # 27694) may be placed in catch basins of storm drains in the following areas:

  • City of Woodstock
  • Town of Ingersoll
  • Town of Tillsonburg
  • Village of Norwich
  • Village of Tavistock
  • Village of Thamesford

The granular formulation of Vectobac 200G (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, PCP# 18158) or granular Vectolex CG (Bacillus sphaericus, PCP # 28008), may beplaced into standing water if surveillance indicates treatments are warranted.

All larvicide will be applied by Ministry of Environment licensed applicators or trained technicians.
