Submission on Ontario’s food and organic waste framework

County Council is receiving comments on Ontario’s Proposed Food and Organic Waste Framework prepared by Public Works staff working with Zero Waste Oxford, a Future Oxford sub-committee. The report points out that food and organic waste make up about one-third of the waste stream going to Ontario’s landfills; the opportunity to reduce food and organic waste by redirecting edible or surplus food to feed people supports Oxford’s own goals of zero waste and poverty elimination. Oxford’s submission to the Province also draws attention to the County’s efforts to explore technologies that recover organic waste from the waste stream, as well as local industry’s success in using food and organic waste digester processing to produce biogas, a source of renewable natural gas.

Additional electric vehicle charging stations under EVCO program

County Council is being asked to approve the purchase and installation of electric vehicle charging stations in downtown Tillsonburg and the Thamesford branch of Oxford County Library. The cost of installing the two Level 2 charges will be fully funded by $53,500 remaining from Oxford’s 2016 Electric Vehicle Charge Ontario (EVCO) program grant. The stations are expected to be in service by March 31 of this year.

With the 2016 EVCO funding, the County had previously installed one Level 3 charging station and two Level 2 charging stations at each of the Quality Inn in Woodstock and the Town of Ingersoll municipal parking lot on King Street.
