Research has shown that a healthy diet can lead to student success. Students who are well nourished are better able to focus, think and learn. School is an important place to teach about healthy eating and be supportive by selling healthy foods and beverages.
Ontario has introduced a School Food and Beverage Policy that includes nutrition standards for food sold and served in schools.
The policy applies to food and beverages sold in cafeterias, vending machines and tuck shops and through all catered lunch programs, events on school property, bake sales and sporting events.
